Project Summary
H.E.R. Harvest is a women-led, end-to-end climate-smart agriculture initiative designed to transform how rural and peri-urban women engage with agricultural production, processing, and markets in Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Homabay and Busia Counties, Kenya. The project promotes sustainable, resilient, and profitable farming practices while empowering women, including young mothers, as leaders across the agricultural value chain.
The initiative focuses on building capacity in climate-smart techniques, improving access to resources and technologies, and supporting women to develop agribusiness enterprises that are environmentally sustainable and economically viable.
- Training & Capacity Building: Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices, organic farming, water conservation, soil health, agroforestry, etc.
- Peer exchange: Farmers school fields, exchange visits, and experiential learning
- Technology Access & Innovation: Solar irrigation, climate information services, cold storage, improved seed varieties, mobile agri-apps.
- Cooperative Formation & Support: Women’s farming groups/co-ops for joint production, savings, marketing, and input procurement.
- Value Addition & Enterprise Development: Food processing, packaging, branding, and agribusiness incubation for value-added products.
- Market Linkages & Digital Access: Link women to local, regional, and digital markets; promote fair-trade practices and green certification.
- Policy Advocacy & Inclusion: Engage stakeholders to remove barriers to women’s land ownership, financing, and decision-making roles in agriculture.
