Betty Adera is the Patron of Young Women’s Forum (YWF) in Africa – the largest movement of young women – nominated by the Africa Youth Trust (AYT). She is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of Betty Adera Foundation, a non-profit organization that invests in youth and women in Kenya with a bias towards prevention, mitigation and response to all forms of Gender Based Violence, Unemployment, Disabilities, Talent Nurturing, Peace Building and Climate Action. Ms. Adera is also the winner of the Ms. President Title for Nairobi County, Kenya.

Ms. Adera brings a diverse professional background to her Foundation, Africa Youth Trust and the world. As an accomplished Public Health Specialist with 22 years’ work experience at Senior Management levels with various reputable local and international Non-Governmental
Organizations in Kenya, she has contributed greatly in shaping Sexual Reproductive Health Policies for young people not only in Kenya but Globally. He immediate notable assignment being her work at Global Communities where she led the DREAMS Program funded by USAID.

She has also worked for various other USAID and CDC funded Programs all with remarkable outcomes due to her great leadership. She has made countless appearances on Local and International Radio and TV stations advocating for better laws and policies for young people especially young women. As a Leader in her own right, and as Ms. President Nairobi County in Kenya, she started her own leadership series targeting Young Women Leaders called “On Becoming a Woman Leader” aimed at demystifying stereotypes and gender norms against women leaders in an African context and building soft skills required for top leadership roles. These series are available on her YouTube Channel. In the spirit of leaving no one behind, Ms. Adera has facilitated several relationships with Private Sector in Kenya around economic empowerment of young people that has resulted in training, couching and mentor-ship on Entrepreneurship and Financial Capabilities and is now looking at facilitating broader international linkages especially for young women entrepreneurs to engage and trade in the world market.

Ms. Adera has received numerous awards on her exceptional leadership. She is winner of the 2019 Global Books for Peace Award and is also a Global Good Will Ambassador Peace. She won the ‘Exceptional Field Staff Member 2015’ Award by Global Communities and in July 2018 won the prestigious ‘CEO of the Year’ Award by Global Communities. She is a nominee for the prestigious Global Icon 2019 and Honoree for World Peace and Diplomacy Organization Medal of Honor 2019. Ms. Adera has facilitated skills building trainings and made numerous speeches and presentations at national, regional and international conferences. Ms. Adera holds a Master of Science Degree in Public Health from the University of Western Cape, South Africa and a Post Graduate Diploma in Children, Youth and Development from the Institute of Social Studies, University of Erasmus, the Hague, Netherlands. She also holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree – Social Work from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She is currently pursuing PhD studies in Global Public Health at EUCLID University where she has been appointed a faculty member. She is also undertaking a Post Graduate Diploma in Diplomacy and International Law at the same University. Ms. Adera is a great public speaker and enjoys spending time for her 2 sons who are now young men.
